Offline: Download the applicable ITR, fill out the offline form, save the generated XML file, and then upload it.
To electronically register the ITR using the XML upload method, the user must download any of the following ITR utilities:
- Utilize Excel
- Utilize Java
Check the following steps to download the Java utility or Excel utility, and then generate and load XML:
Go to the income tax e-Filing portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Download the appropriate ITR utility from “Downloads> IT Return Preparation Software”.
Extract the downloaded ZIP file and open the utility from the extracted folder.

Note: System requirements
Excel utilities: Macro enabled MS-Office Excel version 2007/2010/2013 on Microsoft Windows 7/8/10 with .Net Framework (3.5 and later).
Java Utilities: Microsoft Windows 7/8/10, Linux and Mac OS 10.x with JRE (Java Runtime Environment) Version 8 with the latest updates.
To enable macros in Excel Go to> File> Options> Trust Center> Trust Center Settings> Macro Settings> Enable All Macros> Double-click the “OK” button to save these settings.
Fill in the applicable and mandatory fields of the ITR form.
Note:
Pre-filled XML can be downloaded after logging in to the e-Filing portal in “My Account> Download Pre-filled XML” and can be imported into the utility to fill in personal and other available details.
Validate all tabs on the ITR form and Calculate Tax. Generate and save XML. Log in to the e-Filing portal by entering the user ID (PAN), password, Captcha code and click “Login”.
Click on the “e-File” menu and click on the “Income Tax Return” link.
On the Income Tax Return page:
PAN will be completed automatically Select “Evaluation Year” Select “ITR Form Number” Select “Submission Type” as “Original / Revised Statement” Select “Submission Mode” as “XML Upload”
Choose one of the following options to check your Income Tax Return:
Digital signature certificate (DSC) .Aadhaar OTP.EVC using validated bank account details.EVC using valid demat account details.
Already generated EVC through my account Generate the EVC or ATM option. The validity of such an EVC is 72 hours from the time of generation. I would like to check the e-mail later. Please remind me.
I do not want to check this income tax return by e-mail and I would like to send ITR-V signed by regular or express mail to “Centralized Processing Center, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru – 560500” Click “Continue “Attach the ITR XML file.
At choice, DSC As a verification option, Attach the signature file generated by the DSC Management Utility.
Aadhaar OTP as a verification option, Enter Aadhaar OTP received in the mobile phone number registered at UIDAI EVC through bank account, Demat account or ATM as a verification option, enter EVC received in the mobile phone number registered in the bank account or, respectively , in the Demat account.
Two other verification options, ITR will be sent, but the ITR submission process is not completed until it is verified.
The ITR sent should be e-verified later using the “My Account> e-Verification Return” option or the signed ITR-V should be sent to CPC, Bengaluru. Send ITR.
